HOUMA, La. (AP) – Lafourche Parish sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a minor in Terrebonne Parish.
The Courier reports (http://bit.ly/MUGTRI ) 40-year-old Murphy J. Melancon II of Bourg confessed to being in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl since February.
The newspaper says Melancon was fired when he was arrested Tuesday.
Deputies say Melancon did not have sex with the girl while on duty.
Terrebonne deputies say the girl’s parents called authorities after she ran away from home on Monday.
Melancon was booked with a felony count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and is in the Terrebonne Parish jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
