The men’s soccer club made its first ever appearance in the National Campus Championship Series with a 9-1-1 record and a Region IV South title. The Tigers opened group play with a 1-1 tie against Colorado School of Mines, and they were knocked out of the first stage with a 0-4 loss against eventual champion Michigan State.
Senior captain June No said the team was hindered by injuries and several missing players who simply couldn’t make the trip. Though LSU made a quick exit from the national tournament, No said competing at nationals was a step in the right direction for the program.
“Although our results were not as good as we wanted it to be, it was definitely a great experience for the players and the team as well,” No said. “Hopefully, this will be a routine where LSU men’s soccer continues to advance to nationals year in and year out.”
The LSU wakeboarding team got its feet wet by starting off the semester with a second place overall performance at the Lafayette meet, but it placed seventh overall at the Shreveport meet. Sophomore LSU wakeboarder Nick Vaccari has enjoyed individual success this year by placing first in the open division at both Louisiana Collegiate Wake Tour meets.
In the realm of student organizations, LSU quidditch players Brad Armentor and Sarah Kneiling took their talents to London this summer to compete for the U.S. national team at the quidditch world cup.
“We learned a lot about how the international teams play,” Kneiling said. “But we also just got a better feel for quidditch on the national level, which is important for playing those teams in the future.”
On the intramural side of things, the men’s intramural soccer championship featured a variety of former college soccer players in a match that went down to a 9-8 penalty kick shootout.
