The Kansas City Chiefs selected former LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey with the No. 5 overall pick Saturday.
Dorsey, who ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. called “the best player in this draft,” will now be a piece in the Chiefs’ rebuilding process.
Dorsey said live on ESPN that the call came from the Chiefs’ general manager, who asked if Dorsey could come play defense in Kansas City.
“Yes sir, I certainly can,” Dorsey said.
The Chiefs’ picking Dorsey marks the second consecutive draft Kansas City has selected an LSU prospect in the first round.
The Chiefs chose former LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe this past year with the No. 23 pick.
Dorsey will now have a chance to chase down former teammate JaMarcus Russell at least twice a year.
The Chiefs’ division rival Oakland Raiders selected the former LSU quarterback, Russell, No. 1 overall a year ago.
