Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge was shut down Tuesday evening because of reports of hazardous materials leaking from a moving vehicle.
Louisiana State Police spokesman Markus Smith said a mobile methamphetamine lab exploded while traveling down the interstate.
A trooper said LSP received a call at about 3:40 p.m. because of an ammonia leak from a private vehicle.
I-10 between Highland Road and Siegen Lane was shut down around 4 p.m. and reopened at about 6:30 p.m.
Eastbound traffic was backed up to Bluebonnet Boulevard, according to interstate cameras on the Department of Transportation and Development’s Web site.
Two people inside the vehicle were treated for chemical burns. State police also said a motorist and a state trooper are being treated for minor injuries – both are believed to have inhaled the leaking ammonia.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
