Louisiana tied with Wyoming as the state in which motorists consume the most gas, Seattle-based Sightline Institute’s report found. The District of Columbia was the most efficient, using 4.1 gallons weekly per person.
In 2007, the nationwide average was 8.6 gallons weekly, according to the study. This is down from 1999, when drivers averaged 8.9 gallons weekly.
