Following a public records request regarding e-mails between members of the LSU Athletic Department and managers from Kona Grill, the University confirmed e-mails were sent but refused to release them.
The Daily Reveille filed a public records request April 2 to access e-mails between members of the Athletic Department staff – Les Miles, Herb Vincent, Verge Ausberry, Dan Canevari, Michael Bonnette and Skip Bertman – and Scott Aldridgge and Scott Ascher, two managers from Kona Grill.
The request was made becuase an anonymous source told The Daily Reveille on April 2 that a Kona Grill manager e-mailed the LSU Athletic Department and said he would not serve any more LSU players until he received a formal apology from junior quarterback Ryan Perrilloux.
Perrilloux is alleged to have gotten into a verbal altercation with employees of Kona Grill on March 30.
Staci Pepitone, assistant vice chancellor of Finance and Administrative Services, said in an e-mail that one record was found, but the administration was not allowed to release it because the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act classifies it as an educational record – a record which contains identifiable information about a student.
Pepitone also said removal of the student’s name is not a viable option because “the narrative description surrounding the student name(s) would lead to disclosure of student(s) identity even if the name(s) had been blacked out.”
