After about a week of speculation, the New Orleans Saints finally pulled off their draft-day trade.
The Saints traded spots with the New England Patriots, moving up to No. 7 from No. 10, to select USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis.
The Saints had tried earlier this week to trade for the St. Louis Rams’ No. 2 pick to select LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
The Saints also reportedly attempted to trade for the Kansas City Chiefs’ No. 5 pick when Dorsey fell to that position.
Ellis will join Saints veteran defensive tackles Brian Young and Hollis Thomas between defensive ends Charles Grant and Will Smith.
Ellis will join former USC and current Saints running back Reggie Bush.
The Saints also traded a third-round pick for a Patriots’ fifth-round pick in the deal.
