Tiger Stadium’s signature signs are receiving a facelift.
The sign covering the back of the scoreboard facing South Stadium Drive will now denote LSU’s 2007 Bowl Championship Series National Championship victory.
Construction workers closed part of the South Stadium Drive sidewalk Wednesday morning to change the sign.
Workers also blocked off North Stadium Drive between Tiger Stadium and the PMAC on Tuesday to replace the traditional “LSU Tiger Stadium” sign.
The signature sign on North Stadium Drive did not undergo a design change. Rather, it was replaced to combat fading and weathering.
Eddie Nunez, associate athletic director of operations and project development, said these renovations are typically done every few years.
Nunez said most fans think the signs are painted on the back of the scoreboards when they are actually made of vinyl fabric and cover the metal-framed scoreboard.
