Arizona special teams coach Joe Robinson confirmed Monday to the Arizona Daily Star that he told the Wildcats he is leaving to accept a similar position at LSU.
LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette told The Daily Reveille on Tuesday that he cannot confirm the Star’s reports.
“We are having a press conference next Monday to announce staff changes as well as the addition of a new coach to our staff,” Bonnette said in an e-mail. “At this point, that’s all I can say.”
The Star also reported current LSU special teams coach Bradley Dale Peveto is expected to be promoted to co-defensive coordinator as early as next week, opening the position for Robinson.
Robinson graduated from LSU in 1985 with an elementary education degree and began his coaching career at nearby Catholic Interparochial School of Point Coupee in New Roads.
In the college ranks, Robinson has coached defensive line, linebackers and special teams at Louisiana Tech, Southern Mississippi, Houston and Central Florida before landing at Arizona.
“It’s a great position for him,” Arizona coach Mike Stoops told the Daily Star. “We’ll certainly miss him.”
Robinson will also be an asset to LSU as a recruiter, being familiar with the Tigers’ traditional recruiting area having served as recruiting coordinator at Louisiana Tech and Southern Mississippi.
Robinson coached three All-Pac 10 performers at Arizona, including former Wildcats and Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk.
