Seven people were arrested on campus for simple possession of marijuana, and four people were charged for on-campus DWI offenses during the past week. Capt. Russel Rogé, LSU Police Department spokesman, said of the seven marijuana-related arrest this past week, four involved University students. Out of the five individuals arrested for DWI offenses, two were University students.
Marijuana Sydney Goldberg, University student, of 717 River Elms Court, El Paso, Texas; Paige Robinson, University student, of 856 Mobile Court, Shreveport were issued misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana. LSUPD responded to a report of burning marijuana in Miller Hall on Feb. 19 around 10 p.m. Upon entering the room in question, LSUPD officers recovered marijuana and smoking paraphernalia belonging to Goldberg and Robinson. Rogé said the illegal substances were found stored in a container decoratively labeled, “the weed box.” Rogé said the Dean of Students and Residential Life were notified of the incident. Todd Sam, University student, of 514 Stewart Street, Lafayette was stopped around 1 a.m. Feb. 22 by LSUPD for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers recovered 15 grams of marijuana from the vehicle, Rogé said. Sam was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana and released. Christopher Vial, University student, of 297 Hobcaw Drive, Mount Pleasant, S.C. was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by LSUPD around 2 a.m. Feb. 21. Officers observed the red Corvette running a stop sign along Highland Road. They discovered marijuana in a plastic medicine bottled labeled with Vial’s name while searching the car. Vial admitted owning the bottle and its contents and was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana. LSUPD officers issued Melvin Green, non-student, 26, of 8686 Coy Ave., Baton Rouge and Adrian Aucoin, non-student, 29, of 1315 Mayfair Hill Drive, Baton Rouge, misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on Feb. 20. During an investigation LSUPD officers found marijuana and smoking paraphernalia in the car in the University Methodist Church parking lot. Frederick Johnson, non-student, of 1532 Estalotte Street, Harvey was stopped by LSUPD at 5 a.m. Feb. 20 for a traffic violation at the intersection of Nicholson Drive and North Stadium Drive. Roge said officers discovered 10 grams of marijuana in Johnson’s vehicle. Johnson was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana.
DWI Steven Williams II, University student, 19, of 10117 Carlsbad Drive, Shreveport was stopped by LSUPD on Feb. 21 around 2 a.m. when officers saw a red Corvette run a stop sign along Highland Road. When stopping the vehicle, officers detected an alcoholic odor. Williams’ blood alcohol content was measured at 0.116. Williams was booked into EBR Parish Prison for first-offense DWI and traffic offense charges. A second incident occurred when officers saw Andrew Loupe, University student, 19, of 19440 South Murfield Circle, Baton Rouge run the stop sign at Governor Claiborne Drive and Aster Street on Feb. 21 around 2 a.m. Loupe was brought to LSUPD headquarters where his BAC was measured as 0.145, Rogé said. Rogé said Loupe was booked into EBR Parish Prison and for charges of first-offense DWI and disregarding a stop sign. Keith Smith, University student, 19, of 854 Avenue Louis Quatroze, Covington was driving the at-fault vehicle involved in a crash Feb. 21 at 11:30 p.m. on Highland Road, Rogé said. Smith’s BAC was measured at 0.159 when brought to LSUPD headquarters. Rogé said he was booked into EBR Parish Prison for first-offense DWI, careless operation of a vehicle and no proof of insurance charges. Ray Wood, University student, 22, of 3964 Emily Drive, Port Allen was stopped Feb. 23 at 1:30 a.m. by LSUPD officers for driving without headlights along Dalrymple Drive. Wood was booked into EBR Parish Prison for first-offense DWI and driving without headlights charges.
