LSU earned a ‘B’ in a recent college safety survey conducted by Reader’s Digest. The survey looked at various aspects of campus safety, ranging from a mass emergency notification system to whether the university provides materials concerning rape, drugs and alcohol. The study pointed out that no residence hall is protected by full-time security officers and 53 percent of resident students live in halls with attendants. But 100 percent of students who live on campus have residence halls equipped with smoke detector per floor and self-locking doors. Johns Hopkins University was rated first in the survey. Ninety nine percent of the university’s residence halls with full-time security and attendants. Like LSU, all of their dorms have self-locking doors and each floor has a smoke detector. Two other Louisiana schools – Tulane and Loyola universities – were also listed on the study. Loyola received an ‘A,’ and Tulane, like LSU, received a ‘B.’ Beside these three institutions, no other Louisiana schools were rated in the survey.
