The LSU swimming and diving teams are looking for Fast times at Texas A&M as they head to College Station to participate in the Art Adamson Invitational this weekend.The invitational is held at the Texas A&M Student Rec Center Natatorium and will feature 11 teams including Texas A&M, SMU, Purdue, Washington, the Stanford men, the California women, the Michigan women and diving teams from Ohio State, UCLA and Houston.”It will be the premier event in college swimming and diving this weekend,” Purdue men’s coach Dan Ross said in a news release.LSU coach Adam Schmitt said he is hoping his team will earn NCAA qualifying times at the meet.”Our focus has changed a little bit,” Schmitt said in a news release. “From this point forward, we’re really pushing for NCAA ‘A’ and ‘B’ cuts and going after school records. The Art Adamson Invitational will be a very fast meet, so we’re hoping to pop some great swims against top-flight competition.”The Tigers are 1-1 this season and the Lady Tigers are 0-2-1.The LSU men are fresh off a victory against the Crimson Tide and are looking to continue their success.LSU sophomore James Meyers said the Tigers are trying not to look too far ahead in the season and are fine tuning their racing. The Lady Tigers are coming off two straight meets decided during the final event. LSU senior Vanessa Duenas said the team is disappointed with the start.”I don’t let the dual meets get to me,” Duenas said. “It sucks that we lose, but if you give it all you have in the pool, that’s all you can do.”LSU senior Monica McJunkin said she was hoping the meet will be a way to bounce back from the early season setbacks.”We work our butts off in practice, and we are doing everything that we can,” McJunkin said. “I think when we get to Texas A&M people are going to know we are there.”—-Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
