LSU basketball coach Trent Johnson has pulled recruit Brad Reese’s scholarship offer after Reese visited with another school. Reese’s coach, Gulf Coast Community College coach Jay Powell, said Thursday that Johnson pulled the offer because Reese visited Oklahoma State this past weekend without Johnson’s knowledge.”Coach Johnson decided that’s not the way he does business, and that’s not proper communication,” Powell said. “So he’s decided to go a different route.”Johnson was unable to comment on the situation because of NCAA rules. NCAA coaches are not permitted to talk about recruits until they have signed a national letter of intent.National Signing Day is Nov. 12.Reese, a guard, committed to LSU on Oct. 1. Powell said Johnson pulled the scholarship Tuesday.”This is the first time I’ve had a player commit to someone and then still take a visit,” Powell said.Powell said he supports Johnson’s decision “100 percent.””He is 100 percent looking out for the best interest of his program at LSU,” Powell said. “What he’s trying to do there by building a program that has good qualities and high character and values, he is doing what he feels like he needs to do for his program to stand for what he wants it to stand for.”Reese has also been recruited by Oklahoma State, South Florida, Texas Tech, Alabama, Arkansas and Iowa State, according to Rivals.com.”He just gets two seasons with me,” Powell said. “This is the start of his second season, so he’ll go somewhere else next year.”Reese averaged 16.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game last season.—-Contact Robert Stewart at [email protected]
