BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal may have beefed up the state’s ethics laws, but an organization that ranks such things says it’s too soon for the governor to claim Louisiana’s new laws are top in the nation.
The Center for Public Integrity has taken issue with Jindal’s repeated claims in national interviews that Louisiana’s new law for the financial disclosure it requires from public officials is the strongest in the nation according to CPI rankings.
Instead, the Washington, D.C.-based government watchdog group says Louisiana’s financial disclosure law is on par with other states that have tough ethics laws. But since CPI hasn’t updated its rankings on all states, it can’t say how Louisiana stacks up and whether Louisiana’s law is the strongest in the country.
