Philip Fulmer will not return as Tennessee’s football coach in 2009, according to an ESPN report.
An announcement by the 1998 national championship coach is expected this afternoon.
The Volunteers (3-6, 1-5) have lost three of their past four games and are on the verge of their second losing season in the last four.
“Anybody that likes Tennessee and cares about what the product looks like on the field is frustrated,” Fulmer told the Tennessean on Sunday.
Fulmer has been at Tennessee as a player, assistant coach and head coach for more than 30 years, including being the head coach since 1993.
