Junior defensive tackle Ricky Jean-Francois has “the baddest stereo system on campus” sitting on the floor of his West Campus Apartment.Don’t believe me? Just visit Sports Illustrated on Campus’ Web site to see the 800-watt subwoofer that shakes the windows and doors of his four-bedroom apartment. “Most people have sound in their car, but I keep mine in my room,” Jean-Francois said about his system. “You won’t find a louder stereo system in anyone’s room. Let’s just say the girl in the apartment next to me knows when I get home.”Jean-Francois’ stereo was a murmur this week compared to what the defensive lineman had to say about Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.Jean-Francois said getting a clean shot Saturday on Tebow would parallel a “a car wreck without a seat belt.” He went on to say, “If we get a good shot on [Tebow], we’re going to try our best to take him out of the game.”And just when you thought that was the end of what Jean-Francois had to say, he added, “If he does get hurt, there’s a trained medical staff at Florida, so you can go to the training room on Sunday.”C’mon Ricky. I know you served a 12-month suspension for academic dishonesty, but you should have enough common sense to keep your mouth shut.Just go out and play the game, show Florida — and Tebow — what it means to be a Tiger and lead by example.Yes, every defensive player in the country would love to “get a good hit on a Heisman Trophy winner,” but they keep it to themselves. Why couldn’t you? Why couldn’t you just let your play speak for itself?I’ve never been a big believer in the hype of “bulletin board” material. If players need something to get excited about a big Southeastern Conference game, then they really shouldn’t be playing football. If you need something like Jean-Francois’ comments to anger you, then your heart isn’t in football, and you should hang up your cleats. But just in case you do need that motivation, here’s a little more.No matter what happens between now and Saturday, the Tigers are going to win. The proof is in the numbers. When the team has more than seven days to prepare, LSU is 16-3, 4-2 SEC since its 2003 Bowl Championship Series National Championship win. That includes three bowl wins — including the 2007 BCS National Championship — an SEC title and wins against five other top-20 teams.During LSU coach Les Miles’ reign, the Tigers are a staggering 13-2 when they have more than a week to prepare. They haven’t lost since Dec. 3, 2005, when Georgia whipped them, 34-14, in the SEC Championship game eight days after the Tigers defeated Arkansas, 19-17.Looks like lady luck — and history — are on the Tigers’ side for the trip to Gainesville, Fla.But LSU won’t need luck or even history to help them to the win.The Gators’ offense has looked horrid the last two games. Fresh off a 31-30 loss to Ole Miss, Florida committed 12 penalties for 110 yards and seemed to struggle in a 38-7 win against Arkansas. It wasn’t until a fourth-quarter, 21-point explosion that the Gators pulled away.Tiger fans, get ready because you’re in for a good one. Final score: LSU 27, Florida 24.—-Contact Jay St. Pierre at [email protected]
