Middleton Library is extending its hours beginning Sunday to accomodate more students. The library will remain open until 2 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday. Friday and Saturday hours will remain the same and all opening times are unchanged, according to a Student Government news release.”The long hours will be provided on an experimental basis, to determine whether the library is used during these hours and whether the later hours will continue,” according to the LSU Libraries blog. “Only the first floor of the library will stay open, and no reference or circulation services will be available.”The library’s new extended hours will only be in effect for one month, then the library, administration and SG will determine whether it is necessary to continue.SG President Colorado Robertson said in the news release the new library hours will be to the benefit of the student body, “who has requested the extension for some time now.””It is imperative that the student body reiterate the need for extended hours by their presence,” he said. “This will encourage the library to maintain the new accomodations indefinitely.”Robertson said he has worked with the LSU Police Department to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff visiting the library during the late hours.
