Two New Orleans Saints are among numerous players that have allegedly tested positive under the NFL’s steroid policy, according to ESPN.com and Fox 31-Denver reporter Josina Anderson. Running back Deuce McAllister and defensive lineman Will Smith reportedly took water pills to lose weight. The two tested positive for a diuretic known as Bumetanide, which is commonly used in the treatment of fluid retention and swelling caused by medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease, according to ESPN.com.
Under the NFL’s policy regarding steroids, a player’s first positive test results in a four-game suspension.
