Senior libero Elena Martinez was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday for the third time.Martinez also received the honor Sept. 2 and Oct. 6.This is the fifth Defensive Player of the Week honor for Martinez in her LSU career. She was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3 and Nov. 19 in 2007.Martinez is also the SEC’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year.The New Orleans native had 48 digs in two matches this weekend against Mississippi State and Alabama. LSU won both of those matches, 3-1 and 3-2.Martinez is now sixth on the LSU career digs list with 1,174.
