BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The state is poised to begin $50 million in new construction projects, ranging from road repairs and sewage system upgrades to new museums and ballparks.
The biggest ticket item on the list presented to lawmakers Tuesday is $11 million for a new state office building across the street from the state Capitol.
A joint House and Senate committee supported the plans, in a first-of-its-kind meeting where the list backed by the governor’s office came up for review from lawmakers. It’s a change enacted in the last legislative session, designed to give lawmakers more input in a construction budget process largely controlled by the governor.
Approval of the list is expected to be final this week when it is considered by the Bond Commission.
