NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The election may be two weeks away but Louisiana voters don’t have to wait until then to cast ballots.
The early voting period for the Nov. 4 election started Tuesday and runs until Oct. 28. Voters who want to vote early can do so in person at their parish Registrar of Voters office. Some parishes will also have additional sites open for early voting.
In New Orleans, about 200 voters were standing in line when the office opened. Near the back of that line, Ansel Collins of New Orleans said she might have to cast her ballot another day. “I’m not going to wait,” she said. “But I am definitely going to vote.”
The Secretary of State’s office says voters will need a driver’s license, a Louisiana Special ID, or some other type of generally recognized picture identification to cast a ballot.
In addition to the presidential race, a U.S. Senate race and congressional races will be on the ballot, along with seven proposed constitutional amendments.
