First the library extended its hours to 2 a.m. Now credit and debit cards are accepted at 459 Commons, Highland Dining and Tiger Lair in the Student Union. The obvious signs of progress from Student Government President Colorado Robertson and his staff provide a breath of fresh air students deserve.Note the operative word — students.Getting credit and debit cards accepted in the dining areas on campus was long overdue. It’s 2008, and it seems like every retail location in the world accepts credit and debit cards.Yes, this new initiative will divert revenue from the Tiger Card Office, but Robertson phrased it perfectly.” … We’re not here to support different offices on campus. This is what the students wanted,” Robertson said Monday. Now there’s no more hassle of waiting in line at the ATM or scrambling to borrow cash from a friend to be able to eat at certain places on campus. Worrying about the financial future of a University business isn’t students’ problem. That’s for the University’s staff and administration to oversee.Though the changes may seem small, those types of initiatives show SG is making real progress. The governing body is doing a good job of listening to student complaints and actually making changes. Now the student body has a responsibility to hold up its end of the bargain. Students spoke out and said they wanted those changes made.So live up to the complaints made and make use of the changes. Stay in the library cramming for exams until 2 a.m. Eat on campus using your credit or debit card.Changes are happening, and it’s great to see. —-Contact the Editorial Board at [email protected] sure you take advantage of them.
