BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The final vacant seat on the state ethics board has been filled.
The state House of Representatives chose a Lafayette lawyer, 51-year-old Maurice Monrose, as its second board appointment, the remaining unfilled spot on the board.
The House voted Monday on the appointment in a special meeting.
The 11-member board was left unable to do its work in June after 10 of its members resigned. Several of them cited new laws supported by Governor Bobby Jindal that took away the board’s power to decide whether ethics codes were violated.
Jindal picked his seven new appointments for the board. The Senate has two, and the House has two appointments as well.
The board’s work had been stalled since the mass exodus. Its first meeting since June will be Thursday.
