ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — The sale of a historic property in Alexandria — the now-shuttered, century-old Hotel Bentley — is expected to be completed next month.
The hotel’s owner, Bob Dean, has signed a purchase agreement with Dudley Ventures Development. The closing is set for November, according to John Schneider, president of a Baton Rouge-based firm, Cyntreniks LLC, that also is part of the deal.
However, the purchase is contingent on an agreement, now in the works, for financial incentives from the city.
Schneider’s Cyntreniks and Dudley Ventures Development are both part of Second Century Bentley, a group interested in partnering with the city of Alexandria to reopen the Bentley. Dudley is a majority partner while Cyntreniks holds a minor stake.
Dudley Ventures also is working on an agreement to acqure another hotel, the Alexander Fulton.
Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy has commented on potential incentive packages in the past, outlining proposals that could cost from a few hundred thousand dollars to more than $2 million that would be recouped over a period of years.
In January 2006, Dean was looking for $12.2 million to sell the Bentley. A 2007 figure puts the remodel price at an estimated $17 million.
