(AP) — The Louisiana School for the Deaf could partially reopen in about three weeks, as officials work to improve security after it was shut down because of sex incidents among students and staff, the state education chief said Tuesday. Paul Pastorek said the school still needs to upgrade its security and surveillance, and to continue training staff to better supervise students. He set Nov. 3 as a target date for reopening, but stressed that it could be pushed back. “That is a target. That is not fixed in stone,” Pastorek said. Pastorek closed the school Oct. 7 after the latest in a string of sexual incidents: A 16-year-old male student was accused of assaulting a preteen girl on a school bus. The boy’s “chaperone” was later fired because she failed to follow orders to supervise the boy. —-Contact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
