BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Earl K. Long Medical Center will reopen for business at its Airline Highway hospital on Friday — a month after a storm-related power failure shuttered the facility.
Hospital administrator Dr. Kathy Viator said the hospital’s emergency room opens at 7 a.m.
The move ends an odyssey that began September 1 when all the Baton Rouge hospitals lost electricity as Hurricane Gustav blew through.
Unlike the other hospitals, Earl K. Long couldn’t get its air conditioning systems back up when power was restored. That prompted a temporary move to a site on Perkins Road so patients needing surgery or hospital treatment could get it while the air conditioning was fixed.
