Before packing their bags and jetting to China or Italy, students may want to consider gaining college credit while they travel. The University offers 20 summer study abroad programs in 2009 and more than 200 exchange program options throughout the semester and year, said Jill Clemmons, Summer Study Abroad coordinator. The Study Abroad Fair is being held today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Cotillion Ballroom. It will “let students know what programs are available and give them a chance to get all the information,” Clemmons said. The 38 tables at the fair will be stacked with information about the different programs, including student aid and scholarship options, said Mike Pointer, Academic Programs Abroad and Marketing coordinator. Students who have recently studied abroad are volunteering to work the tables and talk to interested students about their experiences, Pointer said. Any student can be eligible to participate in a study abroad program, Clemmons said. For the summer program abroad a student must have at least a 2.5 GPA.Last summer, 357 University students participated in summer study abroad programs, she said.Summer programs for 2009 include studying in China, Germany, Italy, Spain and 15 other countries. Some programs have prerequisites for the classes offered in the summer, Clemmons said.- – – – Contact Joy Lukachick at [email protected]
