BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court has upheld Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne’s decision to block the Libertarian Party from the state’s presidential election ballot.
Dardenne, in blocking access to the November 4 presidential ballot, said the party had not filed its qualifying papers in a timely manner. The high court, in a one-sentence decision Tuesday, denied the Libertarian’s request for a stay.
Dardenne says he’s pleased that his office will not have to reprint ballots that already have been mailed to military and overseas voters. He says reprinting would have resulted in confusion and increased expense.
