Darrington Sentimore, a defensive tackle from Destrehan, committed last week to Alabama, giving the Crimson Tide their first Louisiana commitment for the class of 2009.Sentimore is a four-star prospect and the 23rd-ranked defensive tackle in the nation, according to Rivals.com. Sentimore also considered LSU and attended the Tigers’ 34-24 win Sept. 27 against Mississippi State.”He’s a real aggressive kid, probably one of the most aggressive kids we coach at Destrehan,” said Destrehan football coach Stephen Robicheaux. “He’s 6 [feet] 2 [inches], 270 pounds, and runs a legit 4.7 to 4.8 [40-yard dash]. He’s a guy that runs real well, goes 110 miles per hour on every play.”Robicheaux said Alabama was “really excited” to get the defensive tackle. He said the Crimson Tide coaching staff respects what Sentimore does on the field.Schools such as Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska and Miami offered Sentimore scholarships, according to Scout.com. LSU did not.”Around school people are happy for him,” Robicheaux said. “But he still has work to do academically. I think he probably will [qualify], but he’s definitely not qualified now.”When asked if Sentimore would reconsider his commitment to Alabama if LSU were to offer a scholarship, Robicheaux would not comment.”I’m not going to answer that question,” Robicheaux said. “But he was real interested in LSU early. That’s all I’m going to say about that.”During his junior season at Destrehan, Sentimore compiled 120 tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 16 sacks.Sentimore is Alabama’s 16th commitment for the 2009 recruiting class — the third defensive tackle of the group.”[Sentimore] does a great job getting to the ball, has great technique and plays with his hands,” Robicheaux said. “He’s a real good football player.”Though it appears it won’t land Sentimore, LSU is still at work recruiting a number of highly-touted defensive tackles. The list includes five-star recruits Jamarkus McFarland (Lufkin, Texas) and William Campbell (Detroit, Mich.). The Tigers already have two defensive tackles committed for 2009 — five-star recruit Chris Davenport (Mansfield) and three-star Josh Downs (Bastrop). National Signing Day, when recruits sign a national letters of intent, is Feb. 4.—-Contact Tyler Harvey at [email protected]
