SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — The economy may be down, but it appears that attendance at the State Fair in Shreveport is up.
The fair opened Thursday and runs through Nov. 9. Overall figures for attendance so far were not available. But the fair’s staff estimated the number attending on Saturday alone to be about 40,000, which would be up 35 percent over the first Saturday a year ago.
If overall fair attendance increases from last year, that would make two years in a row the fair has seen significant growth. In 2007, there were 405,748 people attending the fair, up from the 375,000 in 2006.
The last day of the fair will be Nov. 9.
