NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Orleans Parish district attorney has refused criminal charges against the remaining three Tulane fraternity members accused of burning pledges with boiling water during a ritual initiation.
That means all 10 of the members of Tulane’s Pi Kappa Alpha chapter are off the hook for the felony battery charges the DA considered. Second degree aggravated battery — the charge pending against the group — is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
At least nine of the group still face a civil suit in connection with the event May 10 that sent at least one student to the hospital and resulted in the fraternity being kicked off campus.
