State health officials are looking into a possible case of measles that surfaced at the University in June, KNOE-TV in Monroe reported today.
Lauren Mendes, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Hospitals, told the station that a University student from Russia returned from overseas with measles in early June.
Officials are not considering the case to be an official case of measles in Louisiana since the disease was contracted overseas, according to the report.
There was been 132 cases of measles reported this year. Those cases are from 14 states other than Louisiana.
The previous official measles case in Louisiana was in 2000, according to the report.
