LSU soccer coach Brian Lee announced on Monday the team’s 2008 schedule, which includes seven teams who appeared in the 2007 NCAA postseason.
The Tigers’ first matchup with a 2007 postseason participant will come at home against BYU on Aug. 25 – LSU’s second game of the season.
The Tigers open the season Aug. 22 at home against South Alabama.
In addition to facing BYU, LSU will travel to Loyola (Illinois) for a Sept. 1 matchup.
The Ramblers reached the 2007 NCAA tournament before being eliminated by Notre Dame.
Lee said in a news release LSU looks for a non-conference schedule capable of preparing it for Southeastern Conference play.
“We feel like we’ve done that with this schedule because we’ll be playing a number of teams from major conferences that have experienced success of their own at the NCAA level,” he said.
The Tigers’ schedule also boasts five SEC opponents who made 2007 NCAA tournament appearances.
LSU will travel to Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina, as well as host Auburn and Florida.
“The SEC has really become a major player on the national scene over the last few years,” Lee said. “And we have a great amount of respect for everyone that competes in this league.”
After opening 2007 SEC play with four straight home games, the Tigers will play their first four SEC games in 2008 on the road and host six of their final seven conference games.
LSU’s final regular season game will be at home against Arkansas on Oct. 31.
