The Nicholson Extension parking lot near Patrick F. Taylor Hall will undergo its final inspection this morning, said Gary Graham, director of the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation.
“The University, the state and the contractor are walking the lot, making sure that all of the things that are supposed to be done are done,” Graham said. “We’re just looking to make sure they paved it right – good finish on the concrete, good finish on the asphalt and all of the cleanup is done.”
The finish date for the parking lot construction was changed several times. It was originally scheduled for an April finish, and the date was later pushed to June 5.
Graham said weather problems earlier in the project delayed construction by several months.
“The river let up … when we had all the high water for about a month or so,” Graham said. “They could not get the gravel in that was on barges to make the asphalt so they could pave.”
Two of the lots along Nicholson Extension are open. The lot closest to Patrick F. Taylor Hall is still closed to students.
Graham said he will know when the lots will reopen after today’s inspection.
“If there’s no problems, then [the lot will open] probably late [this] afternoon or Wednesday morning,” Graham said. “If there are some problems, then the contractor may have to come back in. I won’t know until we actually look at it.”
