LSU offensive lineman Jarvis Jones was dismissed from the LSU football team, coach Les Miles announced on Thursday.
“The issues we had with Jarvis were internal and ones that we dealt with within the framework of our team,” Miles said in a news release. “However, we just felt like it was time to go in a different direction. We wish him well in any of his future endeavors.”
Jones, a 6-feet-7-inch lineman from Rosenburg, Texas, played in seven games this past season as a true freshman.
His contribution in 2007 would have made him one of the Tigers’ most experienced reserve offensive lineman in 2008.
Jones came to LSU ranked by Scout.com as the country’s No. 10 offensive tackle after playing for coach Lydell Wilson at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenburg.
Wilson said Thursday he had yet to hear the news of Jones’ dismissal.
“Usually the university calls me when stuff like this happens, but I haven’t heard anything about this yet,” Wilson said.
Wilson also said he had never had any discipline problems with Jones in high school.
Jones is the second Tigers’ offensive player dismissed from the team in the past 2 1/2 months.
Miles dismissed former quarterback Ryan Perrilloux on May 2. An LSU player confirmed to The Daily Reveille on May 2 that Perrilloux had failed a drug test.
Perrilloux signed with Jacksonville State less than two weeks later, saying he was happy to have “a second opportunity to be successful.”
