Students, faculty and staff who remained on campus during and after Hurricane Gustav found 459 Commons open and serving three square meals a day — free of charge. Students staying on campus and essential personnel were issued emergency dining hall cards Tuesday. The card allowed them to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining hall during the week following Gustav when most Baton Rouge grocery stores and eateries were closed. The meals were served free of charge, said Jason Tolliver, contracted auxiliary services director. David Heidke, director of LSU Dining, said about 5,000 meals were served both Tuesday and Wednesday. 459 Commons usually serves about 2,400 meals each day under normal operations.
The emergency dining hall cards are good through dinner Friday and normal dining hall operations will resume on Monday, Tolliver said.
