There’s no hiding the mutual feelings between LSU and Auburn fans.LSU fans hate Auburn; Auburn fans hate LSU.It’s the unfortunate by-product of one of the best up-and-coming rivalries in college football. But LSU fans should remember to keep it clean if they’re traveling to the plains this weekend, even though Auburn has a not-so-classy track record. Most fans still have the images of last year’s 30-24 thrilling game fresh in their minds. LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd’s game-winning touchdown catch was spectacular. But Auburn offensive lineman Chaz Ramsey’s vicious chop block on star defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey was one of the worst displays of sportsmanship imaginable. Ramsey’s block hampered Dorsey the rest of the season and injured him during that game. And of course, there’s always LSU fans’ disdain for Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. A villain in Tiger fans’ eyes, Tuberville made an ugly name for himself among the LSU faithful when he and a few Auburn players smoked cigars on Tiger Stadium’s field in 1999 after a 41-7 Auburn victory.LSU coach Les Miles has kept his team in line in his three-plus seasons at LSU. There’s no reason to buck that trend now. And Tiger fans should do the same.Remember, when you travel places sporting LSU garb, you represent not only the school but also the people who live in this city and state. Don’t stoop down to the level Auburn has set the past several seasons. Brag about the national championship, and the great players and coaches LSU has this year. And let the team’s play speak for itself.Have fun. Stay classy. And bring home a win.—-contact the Editorial Board at [email protected]
