BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A federal judge has ruled that Louisiana officials must add the Libertarian Party’s presidential and vice presidential candidates to the November 4 ballot.
U.S. District Judge James J. Brady says officials of the Socialist Party USA failed to complete their paperwork and their candidates won’t be listed.
Baton Rouge attorney Michael McKay, who represented both the Libertarians and Socialists, said he does not know whether the Socialists will appeal the decision. Party representatives could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Brady gave the Socialists and Secretary of State Jay Dardenne until 5 p.m. Thursday to decide whether they will appeal his ruling to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
