The LSU football team will remain in Baton Rouge and prepare to ride out Hurricane Gustav, Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said Sunday. The Tigers met at 3 p.m. with coach Les Miles to watch film from Saturday’s game, a 41-13 win against Appalachian State.”He released them to let them go home, hunker down and find a safe place for the storm,” Bonnette said. The team will take tomorrow off and reconvene Tuesday at 1 p.m. for practice.Bonnette said there were “several options” discussed for possibly moving the team to another location.”We decided that we have everything we need here, and it would be best to sleep in our own beds,” he said.Junior running back Charles Scott said Miles stressed for the players to be safe and focus on their families. The Tigers are scheduled to play Troy at 7 p.m. Saturday in Tiger Stadium.”He basically said to do what’s best for us,” Scott said. “But once the storm comes by, we’re going to be focused on practice.”Scott said Miles told the players they could report to Tiger Stadium if the electricity goes out in their residences. The locker rooms are expected to maintain power during the storm, Scott said.Miles did not specifically address volunteer opportunities, but Scott said the Tigers are ready to step up if necessary.”If somebody needs help, I’m sure we’d be more than willing to lend a hand,” Scott said.—-Contact Amy Brittain at [email protected]
