A North Texas official confirmed to The Daily Reveille on Tuesday afternoon that Saturday’s football game between North Texas and LSU will be played in Tiger Stadium.”They contacted us early [Tuesday] morning and told us that the game would be in Tiger Stadium,” said Steven Bartolotta, assistant media relations director at North Texas. “They did not tell us of any changes, so we assume it will still be a 7 p.m. kickoff.”But Michael Bonnette, LSU sports information director, said late Tuesday night that a decision had not been reached.”We would love nothing more than to announce that the game is in Tiger Stadium,” he said. “But we can’t do that yet.” Verge Ausberry, LSU senior associate athletic director, said Tiger Stadium has been cleared to host a football game but a final decision has not been made because of Hurricane Ike.”Tiger Stadium is prepared to play a football game,” he said Tuesday. “That’s up and ready to go. The thing we’re concerned about is what Ike is going to do. As soon as we have clear information on that — by tomorrow — then we’ll have clear information on where the game will be played.” LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva will officially announce today the status of Saturday’s game.In 2005, LSU’s games with North Texas, Arizona State and Tennessee were all affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Junior running back Charles Scott said playing at home would be a surge of energy in a team anxious to return to the field after a week off.”I would love to play in Tiger Stadium,” he said. “That’s our stadium, and that is where we want to play.”—-Contact Casey Gisclair at [email protected]
