Student Union officials and contractors met in the Union Theater this morning for a pre-construction meeting. For the officials present, the short procedural gathering symbolized the true start of theater construction. The meeting was conducted by Keith Steger of HMS Architects, an architectural firm specializing in performing-arts spaces. Faithfully following the meeting agenda, Steger walked the attendees through pre-construction plans. The main points of business involved the regulation of change orders and submittals. New sub-contractors were also informed of procedures regarding the nuances of working on a college campus.Currently, theater construction is scheduled to take up to 18 months, ending in February of 2010. Because the theater has been completely closed until construction is finished, officials expect this time table for completion to be accurate.
