A University professor is working to reduce American’s oil addiction by studying low-cost solar power.Professor Marwa Hassan, assistant professor in the Department of Construction Management and Industrial Engineering, is working on a design for a low cost solar powered roofing system.”It will completely eliminate the need for electricity for heating and hot water,” Hassan said. “The only need to be on the grid is for back-up electricity.”Hassan said she is in the process of applying for a patent and will then submit it to contractors to incorporate into building designs.”The first step is to gain success on the local level,” said Hassan. “I think once it is successful here, we can introduce it to the rest of the country. I think it could have potential on the national level.”
