LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announced in a news release Wednesday that LSU’s game Saturday against North Texas will be in Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m.A North Texas official confirmed to The Daily Reveille Tuesday that the game would be in Baton Rouge. In the past week, Athletic Department officials considered the possibility of moving the game to either New Orleans, Shreveport, Dallas or Atlanta in anticipation of Hurricane Ike making landfall.”It is apparent that the storm will move far enough to the west that we can play the game in Baton Rouge,” Alleva said in a news release. “Our prayers go out to our neighbors in Texas that they will stay safe.”In his weekly Wednesday press conference, LSU coach Les Miles said his team will be ready to concentrate on football Saturday after a weekend off because of Hurricane Gustav’s damage to Baton Rouge and Tiger Stadium. LSU had been scheduled to play Troy at home Sept. 6, but that game was postponed until Nov. 15.”I’m not concerned that their focus has changed,” Miles said. “It’s been pretty much the same approach every day. I don’t think the storm has had a tremendous effect. There’s less distraction this week than last week.”North Texas is staying at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans because no hotel rooms are available for the team in Baton Rouge.”I hope they’re not too inconvenienced,” Miles said. “Hotel rooms in the state are a real commodity.” Miles said several players will have the chance to make an impact after the off week as the Tigers return to action.Miles said senior defensive tackle Charles Alexander will see plenty of playing time after sitting out against Appalachian State.”I’m excited [about Alexander’s return],” Miles said. “That’s a guy who’s really worked hard and pursued the field. He’s certainly mature, and he’ll play a lot of football Saturday. He really rejected some of our offensive linemen in practice today, so it should be fun.”Miles noted he won’t hesitate to play redshirt freshmen this season if they will benefit the team the most.”That’s likely,” Miles said. “It’s a good generalization, and I would like to make sure we all understand that as we do our stretch run, those guys that come out better players will get to play. If they happen to be redshirts, so be it.”Miles said another defensive lineman who will continue to see playing time is senior defensive end Tremaine Johnson. “We feel Tremaine Johnson has had a pretty good camp and played hard,” Miles said. “Kirston [Pittman] was a little nicked, and he didn’t have the two-a-days that Tremaine had. You can count on seeing Kirston play a lot, but we’re rewarding [Johnson] again this week.”Miles was also impressed with junior Charles Scott, who set a career high in rushing yards with 160 against Appalachian State. Miles said he will continue to utilize the talents of multiple running backs in games.”He’s picking up a lot of different pieces to his game,” Miles said. “He’s becoming a pretty good third-down back, and we’ll use him in a number of ways. I think we’d be remiss not to get other guys on the field. They certainly have different talents and are very capable as well.”—-Contact Rachel Whittaker at [email protected]
