The University community is one step closer to knowing what will happen to the vacant land on Lee Drive between Nicholson and Burbank drives. The Baton Rouge Planning and Zoning Commission approved changes to the Burbank University Concept Plan at their Monday meeting. The plan will be presented to the Baton Rouge Metro Council on Oct. 15.Austin-based Intercap Institutional Investors presented a plan to build a retirement community linked to the University. The new plan has 1,590 “medium-density units,” more commercial and office space and more acreage to remain open than the plan presented in August 2000, according to the Baton Rouge Business Report.Greg Eden, Intercap managing partner and CEO, said “nothing really substantially different” is in the new proposal.”If the regular review process goes well, we are looking to break ground a year from now,” Eden told The Daily Reveille in August.Intercap plans to build a retirement community that will allow residents to possibly audit University courses and participate in University activities, Eden said. Eden said many upscale student housing companies have expressed interest in the area.”We think Baton Rouge is a great city,” Eden said. “We’re excited about the potential of this project for the University community and its friends and supporters.”—-Contact Lindsey Meaux at [email protected]
