BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Louisiana’s disaster food stamp program is winding down in the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
All application locations shut down Monday, except for those in eight parishes declared eligible for the food stamp aid a few days later than the first list of parishes.
The parishes where application sites remain open through Thursday are Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Sabine, Vernon and Washington.
The Department of Social Services said Monday that it has processed more than 590,000 applications for food stamps since the two storms struck the Gulf Coast earlier this month. DSS says 565,377 households will receive more than $195 million in benefits.
