BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The state’s chief elections officer expects fewer than half of Louisiana’s registered voters will go to the polls for Saturday’s election.
Secretary of State Jay Dardenne predicts a 35 percent to 40 percent voter turnout for the election that includes congressional primaries in the New Orleans area and in north and central Louisiana.
Also on the ballot are several competitive district attorneys’ races, a Public Service Commission seat in the New Orleans area, two Supreme Court positions and a slew of local races.
Dardenne says he expects Baton Rouge to have one of the largest turnouts because of the local mayor’s race and an array of metro council seats up for grabs.
Dardenne expects voter turnout will be as much as 70 percent or more for the November presidential election.
