LSU athletic officials have discussed a potential “back-up plan” to play LSU’s scheduled Sept. 13 football game against North Texas in the Superdome, Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said.Tiger Stadium’s awnings and seats sustained some damage from Hurricane Gustav, but power did return to the stadium Thursday night, Bonnette confirmed.Thousands of residents in Baton Rouge still do not have power, leaving many streets without working traffic lights.”Our focus and our preparation is to play in Tiger Stadium,” Bonnette said. “We’re not planning on playing [in the Superdome], but there is certainly nothing wrong with a back-up plan.”Bonnette said LSU made “preliminary” phone calls and held an “organizational meeting” Friday to discuss the possibility. The Superdome seats approximately 72,000 fans, about 20,000 less than Tiger Stadium.Bonnette said seating concerns were discussed during Friday’s meeting, but did not specify how all fans with tickets could be seated in the Superdome if the back-up plan is needed.”We’re not going to leave anybody out,” he said. “We have a plan in place. We’ll make sure their needs are met.”LSU football coach Les Miles and his family traveled to Houston for a recruiting trip this weekend. Bonnette said Miles’ house in Baton Rouge remains without power.—–Contact Amy Brittain at [email protected]
