Senior Associate Athletic Director Herb Vincent said Tiger Stadium should be able to host Saturday’s game against North Texas, but Dallas and New Orleans are possible site options if Tiger Stadium is not ready. The stadium suffered damage and power outages after Hurricane Gustav’s landfall last Monday, forcing the Athletic Department to postpone last weekend’s game against Troy. The only potential road block Vincent expects is the possibility of Hurricane Ike coming to Louisiana.”We won’t know that until we know where the hurricane is going to go,” Vincent said. “We’re pretty sure now that Tiger Stadium can be ready, but we’ll know more about that in the next day or so.”Vincent said the Athletic Department won’t make its final decision until later this week. The Louisiana Superdome would host the game if it is moved to New Orleans, and Texas Stadium would host the game if it is moved to Dallas.”New Orleans is less of a possibility if the hurricane comes into the Gulf,” Vincent said.Hurricane Ike is projected to reach the Gulf of Mexico midweek, according to the National Hurricane Center.Vincent said power has returned to Tiger Stadium, but all the electronic systems are still being tested.”We’re still evaluating the sound system, the lighting system, and so we still have to go through all of those things,” Vincent said.Vincent said the Superdome is LSU’s main backup if Tiger Stadium is not ready.”We just have that as an option in case we can’t play in Tiger Stadium because of the hurricane,” Vincent said. “We have all intentions of trying to play in Tiger Stadium if we can.”—-Contact Robert Stewart at [email protected]
