The LSU football team is ranked No. 6 in the preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll, released early this morning.
The Tigers received three first-place votes in the rankings. LSU began the 2007 season ranked No. 2 in the poll before going on to win its second Bowl Championship Series national title in five seasons.
Georgia is ranked No. 1 the poll, receiving 22 of 61 first-place votes. Florida is ranked No. 5.
The Tigers face Florida on the road Oct. 11 and play Georgia at home Oct. 25.
USC is ranked No. 2 in the poll, followed by Ohio State and and Oklahoma.
The Trojans and Buckeyes, who each received 14 first-place votes, square off Sept. 13 in Los Angeles.
Two other Southeastern Conference teams are ranked in the preseason poll. Auburn is ranked No. 11, and Tennessee is ranked No. 18.
