With less than three years remaining to accomplish Forever LSU’s goal of raising $750 million to fulfill the Flagship Agenda, the comprehensive fundraising campaign is more than two-thirds of the way to their goal as of May 31. Aided by private donors, pledges and gifts in kind, Forever LSU has raised more than $504 million. With promised state funding, the anticipated funds will top $520 million. The campaign plans to announce new totals Sept. 12 at the next Forever LSU campaign cabinet meeting. Beverly Major, director of the LSU Foundation, said the total will be “pretty substantial.”Chancellor Michael Martin has already turned his attention to the campaign in the two weeks he has been at the University.”There’s a quarter of a billion dollars to be raised,” he said. “And my sense is the easier $500 million has already been raised.”The funds were raised by the Tiger Athletic Foundation, the Alumni Association and the LSU Foundation. The proceeds from Tiger Tour, a 12-city summer promotional tour Major described as a “friendraiser,” were donated to the campaign. Individual chapters of TAF and the Alumni Association hosted the event throughout Louisiana. Separate entities hosted tour stops in Florida, Mississippi and Texas.Major said the tour is used as “an avenue to visit with people in the area.”The campaign is largely focused on donors.”I’m getting regular briefings on who the donors are, what donors we haven’t hit,” Martin said. “What rings their chimes, what turns them off and how do we dance with donors in such a way that they feel good about betting on LSU.”Margaret Womack, University alumna and donor to the campaign, is one of several donors to contribute $250,000 to their alma mater. She is a 1980s graduate of the School of Social Work.”It’s in a good field,” Womack said. “It’s something that’s widely needed by the students to educate the students and better prepare them for when they graduate in that field.”Womack said she hopes her donation challenges the school to raise more funds.—-Contact Lindsey Meaux at [email protected]
